Truth Be Told... Macklemore Earned That Grammy!

Earned it like Lincoln freed the slaves... Which means not really though. I didn't watch the Grammy's because well, that's not something Keef does. If you have "American urban people" (niggaz) on your social media accounts then I am sure that your timelines were flooded with people claiming racism because Kendrick Lamar didn't win a single Grammy. Even more so that a WHITE yes WHITE boy (or two) won big, that white boy being Macklemore. From here on out I will refer to him simply as The Mack Man. He won best rap performance, best rap song, and best rap album. A lot of people were saying he didn't deserve to win based solely on his skin color and appearance. Without even listening to a single song of his. I was partly guilty of that, I didn't think he deserved it either. But not because of his color or appearance or body of work, but because I felt GKMC (Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City) could not be touched by any mainstream artist. PERIOD. But the Grammy family/ judges believed otherwise.

Let's talk about the judges real quick. KRS 1, Ed Lover, Dr. Dre, Common, Eminem, or the ghost of Tupac aren't apart of the judging process. You don't have to be a hip hop head to take part in the voting process. So basically you have a bunch of older white people in the industry who vote on numerous topics. They get to vote on a reportedly nine different awards. When it comes to hip hop they usually pick who they have heard of before. Whoever is more "POP"ular. It comes down to name recognition. Mack Man said he was given a ballot and that he didn't recognize any of the artists outside of the hip hop realm. With that being said, it's easy to see how he won. He's a new white rapper who appears to be sane and modest. But most importantly he supports the gay movement!

Yep I said it! He knew what he was doing all long. At any given point in time 'Murrica is supporting some small disenfranchised group within our borders (and sometimes outside our borders). Right now we happen to be supporting the queers (its cool i have gay friends). The guy did a few interviews and said when he was younger he thought he was gay because he liked to clean his room and he could draw well. Really? Naw son, you weren't gay! You were just stupid! Or not I mean he flipped that story into a near sweep at the Grammy's. Lesson for Kendrick if you want to win a Grammy pick a struggle (Outside of Black youth) and exploit it, i mean acknowledge it and fight for it. Then do a song about a commercial product known world wide (Nike), and try to make it sound so inspirational to almost make people forget that you're probably getting paid for it.

All in all I will say this, The Heist, Mack Man's album was decent to good. Definitely not the best or even top 5 but good. I'm upset Born Sinner didn't even get a nom! I'm upset that Yeezus got a nom. But this show is a popularity contest. How can people get upset about the results of a category that they don't even have the respect to air on national television. They gave The Isley Brothers a lifetime achievement award but didn't air that and didn't even allow them to perform a single song while some artist performed multiple acts. I'm not saying the Grammys are racist. I'm just saying they don't like niggaz.

So by now I'm sure you're confused on where i stand on this. So let me clarify, I could care less about best rap performance or best rap song. But best rap album went to King Kendrick hands down! Maybe after this year the Grammy committee will pay closer attention to the rap community. Maybe kids in Chicago will stop killing each other and love one another. It's possible but not likely.
And I leave you with this. It's more than fitting.
